 Thomas W. Burnell, Chief Executive OfficerThomas Burnell joined the Nebraska Heart organization in 2006 as Chief Executive Officer for both the Nebraska Heart Institute and Nebraska Heart Hospital. Mr. Burnell's responsibilities include the overall management of the Institute's five offices throughout Nebraska as well as the 63-bed Heart Hospital located in Lincoln, Neb. Combined, the organization employees more than 500 employees and includes 28 physician specialists providing services in cardiac, thoracic and vascular care. In addition to daily operations management, his duties include strategic planning, physician services and business development. Prior to joining Nebraska Heart, Mr. Burnell was Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman for Eurofins Scientific, Inc. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Eurofins Scientific Group, S.A., Eurofins Scientific, Inc. is an international biotechnology company providing bioanalytical support service to clients from a wide range of industries. During his leadership, Eurofins Scientific completed the acquisition of four independent laboratories while achieving double-digit revenue and profitability growth. During his tenure with Nebraska Heart, Mr. Burnell has focused his energies to identify opportunities to strengthen patient care and support of physicians throughout the region. Additionally, Mr. Burnell has revitalized a commitment to organizational development and commitment to patient health and safety. Mr. Burnell and his wife, Terri, live in Lincoln along with their son Matt. Mr. Burnell received his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees from the University of Nebraska and holds a Ph.D. in Nutrition with emphasis in Statistics and Biochemistry from the University of Kentucky. He is currently President and Director for the University of Nebraska Alumni Association as well as involved with many local civic and philanthropic organizations. |
